<B>Black Americans hoped Barack Obama would lead them to the “Promised Land,” and white Americans hoped he would reconcile the races, but by failing to understand his country or himself, Obama pulled the nation apart.</B><BR><BR>In his introduction to the world at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, then state senator Barack Obama insisted, “There is not a liberal America and a conservative America—there is the United States of America.
